Activity:  “Access to Justice: Case monitoring by the Philippine Deaf Resource Center 2006-2011”

An initial presentation of findings of over 300 cases involving Deaf parties for the past five years, particularly on data gathered from a human rights project supported by the AusAID /Australian Government.  The majority of these cases are filed by deaf women and children victims of gender-based violence.

The findings include information on: (1) violence  (regional distribution of incidents, profiles of perpetrators, age / educational attainment  of victims, etc.) and (2) accessibility to the legal and judicial systems (interpreting, Supreme Court policy, etc.). Implications on policy and advocacy shall be discussed.

Presentor is  Case Monitoring Supervisor, Dr. Liza Martinez, who is also the Founder and Director of the Philippine Deaf Resource Center.
